ARB size

Post by kevtherev »

I have a 86 panel van. (Transporter)
what's my ARB diameter?

thanks.

I am about to overhaul the front suspension. Beginning with the upper and lower bushes.
While these components are out what other jobs can be addressed?

i'm sure i remember someone telling me the easiest way to tell is with a spanner. Either a 19,20,or 21mm will fit the bar

I did a full overhaul last month.
ARB bushes and the ones on the links. Washers replaced with nice Brickwerks ones. I did the radius bushes too which were a bit of a mission, documented here..... viewtopic.php?f=37&t=116198

As for ARB size, I resorted to measuring it to get it right.

While you are under there, what about the steering rack bushes, and swap 'em for poly-bushes? Certainly helped my van from being a bit of a wanderer on motorways

there is no set recipe for the 19 or 21mm bars so you have to use an open end spanner. 19mm pref as it will go on a 19mm bar sometimes just if there is rust.

obviously no way on a 21mm bar

the optional 23mm bar is very rare and was only fitted as an option on pre 83 buses as part of the heavy duty suspension option

if you have a 19 swap it for a 21 ,both common as muck and takes only a few minutes to swap!

simplest suspension upgrade that's very rarely done , even when peeps lower buses!
