Fuel problem

Hi all,
This is my first post in a while on here so im afraid I may not be terribly much good as im not very technical, going to fill up our van today we noticed that we had a rather bad leak of diesel pouring out near the front passenger wheel, we have no idea what this is or what it is being caused from I took some pictures and was wondering if anyone out there could help shed some light on the situation.
Any help is greatly appreciated. here are the pictures of the part that's leaking:

Just the usual - they're the fuel expansion tanks. Replace those short lengths of rubber hose with new, and all will be good. You might need to do the bits at the other end of the hard plastic pipes, too - that's doable without any more hassle than removing the wheel and rolling your sleeve up.

Total parts cost, a quid or two. Total tools needed, a Stanley knife. Total time needed, five minutes for just that end, or about an hour to do the other, too.

not meaning to get all Jamie oliver on the proceedings, but soak them in boiling water from a kettle and a dash of olive oil dripped down each end makes it easier.

Its only a standard piece of fuel pipe! Should be able to get it at your local motorist shop or halfords etc come with different inside diameters thou so don't get 1 that's to big I'd say that you would need the 6mm

This is the closest size to the original and fits well.

I replaced my expansion tank fuel lines with this the other day. As stated it doesn't take long to do.
I also put on some fuel line hose clips, just to ensure no leaks.

You bought that hose, from those guys? Did it come through actually marked as R9 quality? R9's the dog's for ethanol-proof petrol hose. Seb - you're not going to need that quality for diesel, just get generic pipe from the local factor, for a chunk cheaper. For petrol, though, that's worth searching out.

I think it said R9.
My van is at my father in laws so can't check now.

Nope, it'd work just fine for diesel - but it's a bit overkill on the price.
<pauses> Actually, that price is per metre - I assumed it was per foot - that's cheaper than the cheap stuff from my local factor, then. That's not bad at all.

OTOH, it's definitely the right stuff for petrol. The ethanol in modern petrol (5% now, soon 10% will be widely available in the UK, as it has been elsewhere) eats cheap petrol hose - I had two different bits last a couple of days and a couple of hours last year. That stuff should last for years and years.

Ah, that's good then as mine is petrol. Lets hope this weather continues and we can all enjoy our vans in the sunshine.

Thanks for your help all, i havent yet been able to get under the van to get going on the repair just yet due to work commitments! However the van made it to cornwall and back the other week when dad went away its now my turn to make the run so im going to get on it as soon as i get back from there. Thanks to everyone though
