The central locking it getting more and more temperamental - today was the final straw: It locked the tailgate so it wouldn't open, locked the drivers door open so it wouldn't lock and has no effect on the sliding door. I've had enough - its got to go. I'll be happier with manual locks.
So, is there anything special I need to know for taking it out? And anyone want to buy a some (slightly dodgy) central locking kit?

Re: Central Locking - Removing
You can just remove the actuators and use it all as manual. Infact, you can just unplug the front door actuators and it will disable the whole lot. (I did this until I fixed mine)
If your 'dodgy' actuators are to be sold for a sensible amount, I'll have them for spares

Would also be interested in parts. But you're better just unhooking the power to it and leaving it in there. When it is working - and mines took a lot fiddling with to get good - they are brilliant.

Cool, cheers - I'll unplug them for the moment and maybe have another look when I'm less annoyed!

Re: Central Locking - Removing
it's probably 7 or 8 years now since I fitted those locks and I refurbished them all bar the tailgate one - are you sure the tailgate lock isn't in the don't open except with key position ?
they probably need a strip and clean again they are over 25 years old, they were off a D plate van originally

Re: Central Locking - Removing
I took the tailgate panel off to see what wasn't working - the lock is fine but the actuator was keeping the locking slide pushed to one side, so the plunger had nothing to push against to release the catch, regardless of the key position.
I'm trying to give the whole thing a little more tlc this year (just had all the jacking points re-welded and one of the rear suspension arms - £££!) - bodywork is my priority at the moment... needs new bumpers too (started stripping them to repaint and the bottoms fell out!), some seam rust all over, gutters looking a bit flaky (roof looks like its had a double-dose of sealer at some point and water's getting behind it)... start one job and find two more! Also occasionally has trouble finding first gear, but that'll be another thread, when I get to it...

Re: Central Locking - Removing
those bumpers are shonky JK ones from about 8 years ago, they weren't properly prepped or painted and were meant to be replaced with the big bumper kit
just seen another syncro repaired same place a year later, been having a hard life since, looked really rough, but the seam rust can never completely be held at bay once started as metalmick8y will tell you
