how to attach awning with figure of 8 ?

Post by debstee25 »

We are away and bought figure of 8 to attach awning. We slide on as instructed and it just falls off van, are we being stupid? Is there some trick to this? Any assistance gratefully received, just hoping it doesn't rain!

It needs to be tight, so it pulls onto the gutter...

Either you have a very large figure of eight or very small gutters. Mine fit so tight that it is difficult to get them off again. Are you setting awning and van apart so that the figure of eight is being pulled away from the van rather than up? 'Cus that is what you need to do.

They fall off a lot if you've got a hightop in the gutters as well. Try pegging the tunnel down first then stretching the elastic as you put the fig of 8 on

I gave up as you need to be mm perfect parking. Now use pole and clamp, its much more forgiving when parking.

Hi ok understand the theory that figure 8 needs to be pulling down, think we do have small gutters, like to blame that anyway  readjusted everything and been up for 10mins so might be onto winner! Thanks everyone.

Hi, Debs this stuff locks on solid to EARLIER van gutters due to a return in the top profile of the gutter.
Wish I had the answer for you with regards your later gutter

Hope you get it sorted 8)

An cause your gutters to rot off.

We attached a 'J' rail to our hightop for the 8 profile to slide along. :ok

you need a rail on the van
Volkswagen T25 (T3) pole and clamp is best, figure of 8 will work but some models have a black beading that stops the figure 8 fixing on...and the profile is not quite right for a good fix
