Revamp the kitchen? Cover or replace doors?

Post by MattBW »

I've been pondering updating my kitchen cupboards, they aren't too bad but just look a little tatty and have thick edging thats not massively attractive. The worktop has broken hinges and could do with replacing too.

My options are:

Cover the cupboards in vinyl fablon etc, which would which involve re-edging it all or just replace the doors with some made to measure kitchen doors? As my doors and drawers cover

Anyone have any experience with either option? Im edging towards the doors but dont know how effective the vinyl coverings etc can be, how hard wearing they are and how hard they are to apply.

hi ,did my leisure drive cupboards last year, i rubbed down wooden edging and gave 3-4 coats of dark purple spray paint crom b and q may have been rustoleum simply range then used vinyl covering from same shop to cover units, still well stuck on and no signs of peeling, just stuck onto old finish to! when doing body of unit gaps for draws etc will give you abubble work it into one corner low down then cut on 45 angle tuck lower section under first then press top cut down and itll be almost invisible to everyone else but you! :ok

Recovering allows so many more options for colour change.. and even texture change

my old Auto sleeper went from this

to this

and now this

the doors now use old VW head lining

I did a vinyl recover on my doors and cabinets. It works really well and you can get the exact colours/patterns you want.
The only issue can be that the patterned vinyls can scratch/wear so don't use them on the work surfaces.

A lot cheaper than new doors etc. :ok
