What Voltage are the dashboard LED's?
I need to replace the indicator, main beam LED's etc, I've searched on the forum but I can't find what voltage they are. They don't seem to be 12V

Re: What Voltage are the dashboard LED's?
LEDs themselves are not voltage driven but current driven, a typical red LED needs about 2V , a green, white or blue about 3V and the 5mm LED's are typically driven by the curcuit board at 20-30mA
A 12V LED is actually an LED with a resistor to limit the current so you don't want that.

You'll find that the PCB membrane has resistors in place to drop the voltage down to run the LEDs. The exception is the blue high-beam one as at that time, blue LEDs were non-existent, neither was white.
You can fit a blue LED now with a suitable resistor but bear in mind that the colour blue is used by emergency services because of its visibility over great distances and finding one that won't blind you can be problematic. In fact the high-beam is just a small 12v tungsten bulb in a dark blue cap so with some ingenuity you can fit a smaller blue LED in the original cap, or (as I did), just dip a blue LED in black paint!

You can roughen the led with sandpaper which has the effect of dulling its shine.

OK I've gone for a 3.5V LED with a 47Ohm resistor

Generally with a high beam blue LED (ie as opposed to stock bulb), you can sometimes find its a tadge too bright at night. See how you go with it and if its annoying, try the suggestions above.
