Battery question

Post by domiles1 »

Wondering how to check f battery is good.
It is showing 12.5v so does that mean it is not flat?
It turned engine on first attempt, turned it sluggishly on second attempt, just got clicking on third attempt. But multimeter shows 12.5v across battery terminals when van not running. Is this necessarily an indication of it's state?
If not, how can I check it properly?
Thanks.

Search lazy starter or see the wiki regarding this, it's a common issue.

culprits are
poor earth (battery and/ or gearbox
dirty motor contacts
rotted braid on starter
worn bush in bell housing

to check the battery
charge it up, let it settle for 10 mins...take a voltage reading
leave it over night...take another reading

if they are massively different then it's shagged
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)
