Fiamma Sun Canopy or Caravanstore roll out awning
Help please boys & girls
Looking to get some extra cover on one nighters. Rather than putting up the Khyam awning (even though it's fairly quick) I'm looking at some doorway cover :- I've had a gander at either -
(a) Khyam Sun Canopy, (about £55)
or
(b) Fiamma Caravanstore roll out awning (about £190)
Question, is it worth going the extra for a more sturdy set up or do you reckon a sun canopy will suffice ??
Happy to pay the extra if it's worth it,
Any help / advice is greatly received
Stanman
PS I do have a C-Rail fitted

Campertronic (two members on here
) can do Fiamma awnings - both wind out and roll out. Drop them a line with the sizes etc and I'm sure they'll be able to do you a good deal! sales@campertronic.co.uk (bear in mind they'll be at Bus Types this weekend though).

Fiamma 3.1m roll out (caravanstore) fits perfect on a trident, plus you get some passenger door coverage, best thing I ever fitted tbh

+1 on fiama pull out awning - just make sure you peg the feet and rope the top in anymore than a light breeze, first time I used mine it flipped right over the hitop roof
fortunately no significant damage

That Fiamma awning is exactly waht I want for my Trident, looks great. How does it fix to the van, do you have to drill holes? I've got what I think is called a J rail fitted, does it somehow fix to this?
Cheers.
Cheers.
Re: Fiamma Sun Canopy or Caravanstore roll out awning
You need to fit what I think is known as "p section", or could be "b section" !!, depends which way you look at it, I got this angled profile, as it sits just nice on the angle of the moulding on the trident roof, plus I fitted it end to end, & angled the ends, as opposed to just cutting it of straight at the length needed, like most do, I bonded it on with tape (most sikoflex it), then pop riveted it every 12 inch with peel rivets , hope these pics help, mine stays on all the time while I'm traveling, no problem
Thanks
Paul

Thanks
Paul

Thanks so much for that Paul, very helpful indeed. I guess I just need to remove my J rail and replace it with a P rail then.
Mine is actually screwed on, no rivets - so I guess it will be less hassle to remove.
Thanks again.

Paulgg et all
Just seen your rail for the Caravanstore Awning, unfortunately my c-rail is only 2" above the gutter and although is perfect for my Khyam Motordome I think it is too low to hang a Caravanstore Awning.
Advice please (again, I know !!!)
Opinions on whether I should put an addition rail ( say 5" above the gutter ), will this look too silly.
If i then took off the original rail, do I risk water ingress and unsightly holes and evidence of what was there before !!
You say peel rivets, how are these fixed, I'm a bit nervous about drilling further holes in the hi-top.
Anyone recommend a good workshop in South London, Surrey, Sussex or Kent with whom I could fully entrust. ?
Anyone, please feel to throw in any thoughts / advice
Cheers

PS Someone did suggest a Fiamma Sunstore (lighter, but are they any good)
PPS Where could I get a single length rail to trim down rather than join several pieces)

If your existing rail is tidy, I'd be tempted to leave it on, as you will see, mine is on the lip of the moulding, when my awning is fitted on the rail, it just sits above the gutter, some people mount there rail a bit higher, but I fitted mine there, so it blends into the roof better, peel rivets work by, instead of pulling the rivet in round, like a conventional rivet, peel rivets do just as it says, they peel, imagine a banana half peeled, they look a bit like that, so hey peel behind the surface, & work like a anchor !!, don't know if all that makes sense, it's hard to explain them
, the rail, you can normally pick that up from caravan supply places, think its normally in 3m lengths, hope all this helps
Thanks

Re: Fiamma Sun Canopy or Caravanstore roll out awning
I've just done this mod on my hi top, ( bought caravanstore from fufflenarnia from for sale section) its absolutley brilliiant, The awning rail I got from I think it's called 'camping world' between Horsham and Cowfold ( it's in a garden centre next to the pub where the monthly vw meet is held on 1st saturday afternoon in the month 3pm onwards) the guy here is very helpful and will fit it if required he stocks both p and c sections in full lengths. I used c section and stuck it with caravan adhesive and stainless self tapping screws it is well sealed and does not leak, also takes the weight with no problem
