Re: Pls help identify engine and turbo

From the photos it looks to me like a TDI head (presumably block as well) and injectors, with some sort of of non-turbo pump, as there's no LDA. The LDA (TLA for a long German phrase, Luft something something) provides fuelling compensation for inlet manifold pressure (boost pressure) when a turbocharger is used. Also, typical D/TD injector breaking pressures are much lower than on TDI injectors, so the pump is unlikely to be able to deliver the correct fuelling for the injectors.

LDA is part of the pump, if you want one you'll need a new pump. If doing that you would be best off using a 'MTDI' pump that's intended for the higher pressure injectors on a TDI. A popular choice seems to be the Rover 300tdi pump with some mods. I've not looked at this in any detail, as I favour proper 'eTDI' personally..

Ok, removed turbo and yep is k14. Had to take manifold off too as could not get nuts undone! Going to have to use a vice in the week.

Here's a photo and a Close up of those mystery injectors. Also just noticed that one of the cables to glow plugs is broken - guess this would have an effect on start up?

Definitely TDI, you can see the wire for the needle lift sender on no. 3, and the clamps are TDI specific. The earlier D/TD engine had screw-in injectors.

Got in touch with Midlands Turbo and they will pick it up tomorrow, and not just that, they offered to get the manifold off for me too, so am sending the job lot! Great service so far, but I bet they will be cursing me in the workshop when they get it!

Also followed that wire coming from third injector and not pluged into anything! Doesn't look like it ever has been.
