starter bush help please
i cant find where the bush is on the bell housing?
i have taken the starter off and going to renew all the connections but kind of puzzled where this bush is after reading it may be the cause of my hot start issues
van is 1982 2l cu Aircooled
im thinking if it not the bush then maybe the connecters as they are really dirty
tested the volts to the solinoid with ignition on and reading 12.4v so guess this is ok?

Re: starter bush help please
If you take the starter motor out then get your head up as high as you can between all the oily messy dirty bits, look into the hole from where the starter came from, use a torch and you will see a hole which the shaft from the starter fits into, that's the bush in the hole. Use an m12 tap( I fink) to screw into the bush , you should be able to pull it straight out.

You should be able to do it without removing anything. Mines a 1.9 dg and was fine, and I've got hands like shovels

Re: starter bush help please
Don't forget to soak it in clean oil overnight before fitting.
Are we going on anything else?

Re: starter bush help please
Fitting greatly assisted with longish bolt just large enough to fit snugly inside the bush and a nut wound up to the edge of the bush so it goes nicely into the hole...

Re: starter bush help please
I think I used the long one that holds the starter on - it was on hand and right size -like you say wind the nut down to hold the bush and then gently tap it in squarely
