Electroliytic Rust Removal

Post by Oilline »

Dont know if this has been covered before but i have just discovered this amazing way to remove rust from components.
Just need soda crystals, a bucket a battery charger and a piece of scrap steel.

Then after a quick blow over in the glass bead blaster

Used similar process in school to nickel plate copper coins... Back when 2p and 10p were the same size... As you can imagine as kids we spent them

Yes thats a method I used when I was electroplating.
Hot hydrocloric acid has the same effect with no power required
and pickling in phosphoric acid neutralises any rust

you can take it a step further...
fill another bucket with warm water, some zinc oxide, soda crystals, better still.. sodium hydroxide or caustic soda... and saccharin
get a thickly galvanised piece of steel

reverse the current and plate the piece in zinc..
