keep the dirt / water spray out and protect the pushrod tubes/ oil pressure switch from damage

Yeh no hurry but probably worth getting some fitted, second hand will be cheaper.

Well so far things checked are all earths. Took relay 43 out and the red light still flashes, changed sensor in the header tank.

Today I tighteden up the nut behind the temp gauge and now if I take the sensor out the header tank or short across the connections on the plug for the sensor in the header tankthetemp gauge quickly moves all the way to the right. So im guessing that theconnections are ok now and tightening up that nut has helped things.

What else can I check? Ive ordered a new temp sensor that screws in to the thermostat and im getting a known working relay43 from amember im hoping that one of them solves the problem.

If anyone has got any more ideas please help

Cheers
Chris

If I remove relay 43 should that stop the red light flashing?

not so familiar with the older wiring but that sounds very wrong to me, when I get a moment I'll have a look at the older wiring diagrams.

Level sensor on the later vans does not affaect the guage and I doubt is should with the early van

There seems to be varying opinions on this. Some say the control box ("relay" 43) moves the needle over to the right so you can clearly see (the otherwise partly obscured) LED when a low coolant level is detected.

I took the level sensor out this afternoon ( well pluged in a spare) and detected no movement on the guage, just the light flashes afeter a period of time witht the sensor in air.

If the sensor is left out in air when ignition is first switched on the light keeps flashing after the self test routine.

Not sure if shorting the level sensor could damage the 'relay' it should see only infinite ( no coolant) or high resistance of say 3mohm when the probes are in coolant.

If I remove my 'relay' with the sensor in air the light stops flashing.

When the temperature is high the light flashes IIRC so the light is not just for low level.

If I get the light flashing by removing the low level sensor plug or with a genuine low level, then removing the relay on my later van stops it flashing, so assuming the early circuit is the same ( looks it to me in the diagrams) it's probably not the low level circuit thats the problem.

I can't help thinking its a dash problem, can you borrow a known good dash?
