Post by Niander »

Clutch master cylinder leaking!
latest thing to go!
its leaking oil down under the pedals and the clutch master cylinder is all oily and a bit rusty
ive taken out the instruments and the brake master looks ok..i cannot see any oil leaking up there
how hard a job is it and what is entailed to put a new clutch master cylinder in there?

About an hour's job, fiddly rather than difficult.

Before you order the master cylinder, check the bleed nipple on the the slave cylinder is in working order as you will need it to bleed the system once you've changed the master. They have a habit of seizing or snapping off so you may need to replace that too.

Last thing you need is to fit the master then go to bleed it and find you have no nipple left. Then you order new slave and try to fit it only to find the union on the pipe has seized too. Best if you can order all the parts needed in one go.

Brickwerks sell the correct bore pipe if you do need it. The union to the master should hopefully come loose OK as it is more protected from the elements unlike the slave one.

At least you'll be familiar with the work involved when you have to change it again next year...
