2 litre CU questions

Post by petethefeet »

Hi all,
Two questions.
My van has got a pair of CB perf. Solex Brosal carbs fitted by the PO; is it normal to fit a thick heat insulating gasket between the carb and the manifold??
The reason I ask is that the van starts a treat cold but hot it will spin over well but I have to put my foot on the throttle to get it to fire. I had a similar prob with an old motor bike caused by the carb getting too hot as the heat soaked thro from the engine evaporating the fuel.

Second question
The fuel line that runs from the tank is a semi rigid plastic pipe joined with rubber hose at both ends; is this OK or should I replace it with a bit of copper pipe?

Thanks for your help

That's the normal way to start the engine hot.

That's what VW fitted, just replace the Rubber hoses with R7 or R9 grade hose.

Thanks for the answers.
I was going to have a look at the book but it is in the van at the mother in laws.I will give that a go atthe weekend.
Re. the thick gasket. Do I need one fitted; I have looked in the Haynes book but it does not give that detail and Bentley covers injection.

I did find this thread https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... arb+gasket that talks about a thicker gasket.
