Just curious. My brother in law just posted pics of the family car on FB.

Luckily he was only doing 5mph but could have been a whole lot worse.

Is this just metal fatigue?

Must be a metal fatigue or a part of the arm that is over stressed, I've repaired two old a4's for the same failure, in almost exactly the same place.

Given the pot holes everywhere I'm not surprised ... on the Passat (extremely similar if not identical suspension) the small balljoint on each of the arms give out before that sort of thing happens.
