Hi Jez,

As ever no expert me but... I got one of these from Maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/tti-tcb-660-mul ... dio-591747" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I added an ariel from Thunderpole like this: http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/medium-cb- ... bitor.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and a clamp so it goes on my mirror bracket.

It seems to work fine and gave quite a decent range in Devon last August. It can also be used across Europe so you'd be alright for France.

I recently fitted a remote speaker to my CB. What a difference it made to sound quality. Going from the tiny 1.5" internal to a 3.5incher external is fantastic. Cost a tenner. Shoved velcro on bottom and on dash to keep it placed. Best upgrade for ages!
