2ltr a/c engine probs

Post by REN »

Anyone got an suggestions?

Stripped top end to sort leaking head, replaced crank seals, pushrod tube seals, head & base gaskets, removed carbon from heads & pistons, lapped in valves.

Motor ran sweet for 1000 miles then started spewing oil out from (i think) the flywheel side crank oilseal to the extent where i used 5ltrs of oil in 250 miles last week!

Anyway it also looks as if there has been a bit of oil spray comming out of the engine breather aswell (got one of those small filters on).

I know that worn pistons/barrels will preasurise the crankcase but will anything else cause this problem?

Motor now removed again this mornin to sot so i'm lookin for inspiration!

Ren,,,,,,

First question is did you change this seal while the motor was out first time or not ? Coz the only thing that springs to mind is ,perhaps you have broken a piston ring during the first rebuild ?
But they do say (old school engineers) Don't clean off the tops of the pistons as this can cause oil consumption to increase on a worn engine.

Check crank case breather hole is not restricted in any way on the system as a poor (crank seal) will be one of the first places to leak when the motor is running.
