1983 1.9 coolant tank

Post by TomDub85 »

OK so having some problems finding the correct tank for my van as the van is 1983 so from I can see the tanks changed that year and from what I can see I need the older tank to what I can find , the part number on the tank is 025 121 407 A . is it possible to fit the older tank and get away with that ?

I'm new to the scene so have millions of questions I've been using the wiki page loads and finding most my answers but one really dumb question I have is the exact model of my van eg allot people put 1.9 DG , jx ,DJ or d ect really stupid t if you don't ask you don't know mine is a T25 1.9 petrol 1983 reg on 1 April 1983 and has a leisure drive roof.

Forgive me for my dumb questions over the coming weeks

Your engine type is found just below the base of the oil filler pipe. If original your engine is probably a DF, but check it out!

Just looked were the pipe enters the engine found what I think is the engine number but no sign of letter eg df ect ? Popping out grab few parts I'll have another good look when I back and tinkering around on few other jobs thanks

The letters precede the engine number. Wipe the oil off!

This is the tank I've spent the last 5 hours to find . if only I had a model 1 year later this would be no problem .

Has yours got a metal cap or plastic? If metal I'm not sure the above tank is right but I've just mailed Brickwerks as I have the same dilemma.

Ok, do you happen to know if the 1.6 diesel tank has the same part number as the orig? I'd prefer to upgrade as imagine that the later Dalek cap one is more reliable? ......wait for flurry of contradiction and only to buy ones from hallowed ground that have been blessed by lord Baxter;)

This is the closest I've found to mine for correct shape etc I'm working on a solution to avoid changing the tank as the section that the expansion tank hose connects to has snapped . Being pressurised this could be a issue to get sorted but it beats paying out if it can be avoided as I have a list of other parts I need . new to the scene fresh faced and full of fools hope . Keep me updated on how you get on just kampers emailed me back but neither of the tanks are the same , if you look at The pics at the start of my post .

I don't know if you've read the add, but at the bottom it says that it replaces part number 025 121 407 which is the part number in the first post.

you don't have to buy from brickwerks, put an add in the wanted pages and buy a 30 yr old one.

Ok monsieur, that was an attempt at sarcasm in fact. Just sent pics and dimensions of my early petrol coolant tank (as above pics) to see if the Brickwerks early diesel one at least has the same size and location outlets. Image

I measured the lower pipe as approx 30mm and the bigger upper hose as 40mm, does this fit with your measurements? Pic of Brickies one below,£66- Image
