Speedo cable
Not sure if I've posted in right section but I need a new speedo cable for my 1988 AH Komet. Just wondering if anyone could post a link to a good one and the right one - I understand there are different ones for early and late vans.
Much appreciated.

Re: Speedo cable
Assuming it's a RHD this one....
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t ... ip-on.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have to say I didn't have much luck with aftermarket cables ( needle was jumping, tried two both the same) and ended up putting my broken VW cable back, not sure if you can still get them from VW but if you can maybe worth it. Others must have managed to fit these so maybe something I was doing wrong.

Re: Speedo cable
That's the jobba....fit without tight bends (gradual and progressive cable angles) also lightly oil the inner cable (remove the inner part and run it through engine oil) this has the effect of dampening the cable rotation (grease is too heavy). takes out the jerking movements.
Make sure the square cable drive is pulled through the grease cap and is properly fastened with a C clip.

Re: Speedo cable
Thanks, it doesn't really bounce but it is making a horrific noise for first few miles.

Re: Speedo cable
Massive thanks today to Mark Foss and JeffJ for fitting the speedo cable today. Great team on the job, all working well and the nasty noise has gone.
Best moment, just finished, collecting the tools ready to test drive and Mark innocently cleaned his glasses and I quote "much better now, I can actually see"
Great to have such kind people so close, cheers fellas

Re: Speedo cable
I decided to sort mine out today.......only to find that there is no clip on at all, just a small screw wedged in as a bodge by the previous owner. I tried to order a new one from Brickwerks but there is a minimum order of £5.....the clip is 18p I think.
