Heated rear screen
Hello, I have recently aquired a heated rear window to replace my current unheated and badly scratched window.I would like to check the heater is working prior to replacing but not knowing much about electrics is it a simple case of checking out continuity with a multimeter or what ?
Thanks

Re: Heated rear screen
Hi there,
Yes that should be fine, coz it is just like a circuit and should show resistance if there isn't a break in it.
Cheers dazz

And then how should it be wired? Straight to switch/ fuse box/ earth?

Re: Heated rear screen
Depends on what van it is going in really..... If it is going in a van that didn't have rear screen or rear wash wipe it will need a loom making up !ronsrecord wrote:And then how should it be wired? Straight to switch/ fuse box/ earth?
Assuming the OPs van is a panel conversion it will need feeding via a 40amp relay from the relevant fuse on the fuse board ,there is a route up the "a" pillar and along the inner roof channel where the interior light loom runs , switched in the signal wire with a switch with a warning light . You should only run the positive feed and use the chassis of the van as neg .

not quite..
if the break is on one of the pathways across the screen.. there are plenty of others

Re: Heated rear screen
I spent ages typing a reply on exactly that then went out and lost it - saved me saying it!

Re: Heated rear screen
Thanks for the replies guys. Luckily wiring is in place to the rear screen so I will get new seal ordered ready for when I swap the screens over.

Re: Heated rear screen
To test it, you could probably just connect a 12v supply (obviously with suitable fuse/cable size)... you should be able to feel the heat on your finger

Re: Heated rear screen
Just use a multimeter - it isn't difficult to find breaks.
