Missing Oil Cap

Post by bundoodle »

Just checked my oil after Easter hols to find the oil cap missing? Done around 800 miles on the engine which is new since getting it back from garage. Oil level is just around the minimum now and there's no sign of oil leaking out. Should I be worried about this?

Have you asked the garage if they have found it lying around? Oil filler cap available from Just Kampers £8. I'm surprised that nobody is complaining about the petrolly fumes.

Shouldn't be petrol fumes from the oil!

Some unburnt petrol ends up in in the oil, that's why I said 'petrolly' ie a hint of petrol as opposed to pure petrol fumes. The point is hot sump oil would send fumes out through the filler pipe.

Another point with a new engine and without oil leaks is I am surprised that the oil level is on minimum after only 800 miles. Did you check the oil level after getting the van back from the garage?

Put your vehicle details in your signature and we could positively point out where to get a replacement oil cap ...

Petrol .. http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t ... t3-t4.html

Diesel .. http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t ... t3-t4.html

They may be the same part but I have no knowledge of T25 diesels

Thanks for your advice. Did not think to check oil level when I got it back! Did smell a bit of diesel but did not think anything of it. The exhaust only blew a cloud of smoke out when starting in morning after cold nights and was clear at starting on an afternoon from cold so did not look to be burning any oil?

Bit of a layman when it comes to engines.....
