engine idle/reving to fast

engine idle/reving to fast
hi everyone just recently fitted a replacement engine in my van but i am having a bit of an idle problem.its a 1.9 petrol dg engine so here goes,start the van and it runs ok for a minuet or two then the idle speed picks up quite alot.so couple of blips on the throttle and nothing still reving/idling quite fast so take it for a blast for a couple of minuets and it sorts it self out,drops back down to a decent idle speed.any ideas what could be causing this.cheers dave
