Crimping is used in all industries because it's cheaper, it's quicker to assemble, it requires a lower skill level during the assembly process but more importantly (especially for aerospace) the weight is more controlable.

According to E/NPRD95 (Electronic / Non Electronic Parts Reliability Data - a drier book you will never find) solder joints, if correctly done, have a lower failure rate than crimps but the failure rates for both are small crimps are used as they are cheaper in the long run
