Pump leak

Post by tommin »

Okay, today put the new starter motor on (ebay ASP), fitted sump (Used), done some electrical wire replacement and I cleaned up the earths, actually put an extra strap from the starter motor to the battery engine earth mount, there you go, started first turn of the key :D

Now though found another hopefully little issue to rectify, with of course the generous help from you guys. It concerns a small seepage from the pump??????? :(
Take a look at the picture and the leak appears to come from this plate (arrowed) or underneath I should state, and before you say, it is not from injectors, return pipes ect...

Any ideas advice etc as usual always much appreciated.

Further info available, the leak (dripping) is intermittent, it only happens on deceleration? :? By the way, what is that plate doing? I see it moves a rod underneath which in the picture is at the back and is connected to that rubber flange? Am not up on this engine!

yes, undo the 10 mill nut, lift off the plate you've arrowed [be carefull not to lose the washer under the plate!] and dig out the seal [should be a blue one].
get a new seal first!!,as a tempory fix i fitted another washer on top of the seal.

Okay i think i can do that, do i need to worry about a spring that i am sure is there or is that not an issue?

I am pushing the boat out now, i started up this morning to find the oil light flashing, even after topping up with over the 4.5Ltr as recommended, how do i trace that oil sensor cable and where is it connected to in the engine? One more which is probably related to the oil light flashing, i am getting a constant buzzing sound up front in the dash somewhere....... please tell me these are related.

I will get that washer pack ordered today, need the old girl for this years fishing trip north :ok

No spring.
Don't, over fill!! Have a look in the "wiki" for your oil pressure problem.

also look for a post by Oldie but Goodie in "any other matters" for a manual.
Back to your oil problem; check for leaks from the pipe going from the oil filter stand to the turbo.

Again thanks Dave, you have been a great help to me, much appreciated. I read the wikis and now know where each of the oil sensors are located, front of engine and oil cooler. I remember also that while getting the starter motor out, i managed to break some of the smaller cables in the engine bay, they were all odd bits and pieces other owners had joined and re+joined over the years, so colour coding was out the window  Anyhow, i rejoined a couple of those cables not really knowing which was which but do remember them going to the sensors of the engine and oil cooler, and anyway i think i may have connected them wrong. So i tried it, swapped the oil cooler sensor cable to engine oil cooler sensor and visa versa and my troubles vanished. Is it possible this could be all that happened? I do not know, so until told otherwise I will assume they are now right way round, and I am okay. :ok

As for the sealing washer on the pump, I must try and source that locally (Finland) which may be nigh on impossible but can only try

Well had a look see and sure enough once i removed the plate there was some diesel seepage, now the million dollar question(s) is how to replace that seal? How do i remove that center thread to get at the seal? It just turns loosely by hand going nowhere? I tried extra washer and 'O' ring, to no avail sorry, but still leaked? Pic attached, hopefully someone (Dave) can shed some light my way (again) :ok

ok,put the nut on the shaft and push the nut [and the shaft ] down a bit so you can get at the inside of the seal, then with a small screwdriver lever the seal out [do you have a new seal?].
Good luck.

Will update once job done. Have a great weekend :ok
