Annoying Clanking
Hi All.
Bit of a weird one. I have a clanking noise now and again that sounds like the noise you get when you drive over a small loose manhole cover. Seem to get it if I drive over small bumps.
I've cast my eyes over everything underneath, nothing obvious.
I know its a long shot, but someone might just have had same thing.
Cheers
Andy.

I have had the same problem on two occasions. The first was quite a heavy clonk caused by a worn bottom b/joint.
The second was more of a bump. This was the ARB (anti roll bar) bushes. once removed, the ARB to body bush was 50% bigger than it should have been.
If the ARB bushes are at fault then they can be replaced with either poly's, or like I did (cheapskate)original VW ones supplied by JK's. The job is really easy and very rewarding.
I now go over drains instead of driving around them.....
If that is your problem feel free to pm me with any questions..........

This is a quick reply, I spent fifteen minutes writing you a message only for my mouse to run out of batteries, thus I could not submit it...
On the worn bushes I could see 50% of the ARB inside the bush, On the new it is not quite sealed but I would say you can only see 5% if that.........................
Totally dejected....lhd...................

Mine does exactly what you descrive and I'm just ignoring it at the moment. I suspected the ARB bushes as I have checked the ball joints and they are fine.
I'll sort it out when I take it off the road after the summer.

Mine had a noise I would describe like that, from the rear.
It was a loose lower shock absorber mounting bolt !!
2 mins to fix !!
