Well the bugger is in, but at what cost? Was fine getting it started and most of the way through till I got near the end. I used a jubilee clip at the bottom to allow the bush space to pop through but it didn't ever really pop through
I managed to use a screw driver to flick the last bit of bush lip out the other end. It caused a slight scrape on the bush, not sure if that will affect its purpose! It also doesn't look quite as cone shaped at the ends since I've been pressing it.

If anyone has a picture of a freshly pressed bush please share so I can compare.

Will post a few mid way through pics tomorrow. I'm going for a rest now :ok Jon.

Looks fine from this side.

Not as great from this side though.

You can see the grazed bush here!

You reckon the slight blemish on the bush will be ok Mike? It was almost as if the bush was too short or the bush housing was too long!

hmm .ok
bush looks ok , when you were about through what did you use to space the big washers on the pulled through end
the steel bush is the correct length and looks to be about the correct ammount through on both sides to me

Gouging the bush like that will be fine. Fear not. To be honest its a pig of a job and drives you nuts. I wonder if the urethane versions are any easier, not that I'd be paying that kind of price for a bush.

Here's how I did it:
I used a 12mm threaded stainless steel bar about 300mm long.
Has to use various sized thick washers and a couple of strong nuts.
I had a packet of rubber lube to assist.
I also used a jubilee clip to squeeze the bush edge in a little at the start.
A few spanners and a socket set.
Here it is starting off:

I found starting off was relatively easy. Just made sure it was straight and plenty of lube around the bush and inside the cylinder that holds the bush. It got tougher the closer it got towards the end. At times I wondered if it was ever going to make it. I used a socket to hold the nut at the bottom still and a spanner to turn the top nut.

Altogether it took about 2 hours. The cursing and swearing started as I got towards the end. I had to use a jubilee clip at the bottom to bridge the gap between arm and washer so the bush had enough room pop out. I didn't get any pictures of that final stage as it was the last thing I was thinking about, but here's the last one I got:
Image
The main problem I had was it seemed the bush had been fully pressed in at the top yet every time I took it all apart the lip hadn't popped out the bottom. Not sure if the top washers needed to be bigger but in the end I flicked out the lip with a small flat headed screwdriver. Anyway, glad its over and will hopefully tackle the other one on my next day off.
Feel free to ask any questions or share pics of your bush pressing!

Got the other one in tonight. Same method, about half the time, similar amount of swearing  Jon.
