Conversion/ Change of use question

Post by rocco1504 »

Hi

I want to ask about Conversion/ Change of use, I bought a van last year, and am thinking of getting it changed with DVLA.

Now the van has 2 side windows fitted, and has a "Bed" area that has been made by extending the rear floor area up to the rear edge of the sliding door, this extends the full width of the van, and is securely fixed to the body, underneath this is a Cupboard, for storage, the van also has a unit attached to the wall opposite the sliding door, which has an area for a removable cooker, with a cupboard underneath for a Gas bottle, next to this in the same unit is a cupboard for storing a Water bottle.; The whole of the rear interior has been Boarded and Carpeted. I bought the van like this.

Now, having read the Rules on what is needed for a Change Of Use, 1/ Could I consider the extended rear platform as being a "Bed" area/ Seating area, for a table ? ( Which I need to Fit ) or do I need to fit actual Seats ?, 2/ Could I use a Portable Gas cooker on top of the unit, that is attached to a Gas bottle in the Cupboard ? or do I need a Fixed Cooker ?, and a Water container in the other Cupboard ?, 3/ Exactly how stringent are the DVLA on the Change rules ?, as I need to know what i need to do to get this right, or if I need to rip out the platform and fit a bed.

All advice will be gratefully received

IIRC cooker needs to be fixed/fitted and at least two burners... though I dont see how they could say a portable one which is bolted or screwed down doesnt qualify... Thats if its the true homebrew aesthetic you are after...

Are there any road tax implications to changing / not changing the definition with DVLA.
