New 90 Amp Leisure Battery Fitting

Hi all,

Got me a new leisure battery from Alpha Battery Man, a 90 amp (According to the reciept) and measures 310x175x175. This is bang on spec according to the WIKI but just can seem to squeeze it in. Have included a couple of pics as I have swivel bases on the seats so there may be something odd about my set up. This is my first T25 so Im not sure what it should look like.

There is a horizontal lip that sticks out forwards on the back of the battery box restricting access a little though this is factory. Do I need to cut this off? Also the horizontal that sticks out on the seat base is def in the way of getting it in though this looks like its designed to hold the battery down.

Any comments?

Ayup mate...I wrote that bit of Wiki so feel a little responsible if it's not accurate....those dimensions are on the absolute limits so my first question would be have you actually measured the battery at it's outter perimeters?
And
I'm slightly unclear about this lip you mention..could you indicate it in your picture....
Obviously if the Wiki entry needs changing...

Hi there, Well I'm sure many people have used it quite sucessfully before! Yes the measurements include the extra bits of plastic around the base so those measurements are the outer limits of the battery size.

Well possibly, there is no lid rivited on mine just has bits of wood that clip onto the top of the box.

Here is the pic;



A). The Horizontal welded to the seat base, pretty sure it'd slide straight in if I cut this off, pretty chunky bit of metal though and looks like its part of the system to hold the battery in with a bracket and bolt as well.

B). Cant really see it in the pic but looks like where you could attach a hinge and lid. Reduces the size of opening at the top of the battery box, but looks like it's made that way from the factory.

C). This is the sliding part of the swivel base, seat turned 180 and slid backwards as far as it will go, the part shown in A, the bottom of the seat base does not move and seems to be welded to the van.

Do the normal T25 seats slide forward and backward on runners that are part of the Van? My seat slides on the swivel seat base which weleded to what looks like the original seat runners, no pics of this at the moment.

I cannot get the seat back any further and cannot remove the seat base without attempting to grind off the swivel base from the van.

For some reason I seem to have lost the pics of the empty box before installing the battery
seat clearance with the factory lid down and not touching the terminals

Battery is the same size as yours, absolute max dimensions.

I trust you have insulation on the metal lid where the + pos battery terminal is ??

Aye, in the first and third picture you can just make out the fairly thick cushioned vinyl strip there.
I also have, but not installed yet, plastic covers for the terminals that will fit when all the connections are made up.

I knew you would have, but was worth pointing out I thought.....
I always thought it was a bit risky having a metal hinged lid with no support on the other side over the battery.....

I think Part A is your problem, I don't think that is part of a 'standard' swivel seat base - so it might be that a previous owner added that part to help hold in a 'smaller' battery.
Would you be prepared to remove that or 'encourage' it to move out of the way?

It should go in if it is no more than 175mm wide. Swivel seats make it a but of a squeeze you have to get it at the right angle to drop down and yes the bit on the seat base is where the mounting bracket bolts to.

Doesn't look like its going to fit to me. I thought maybe the put the swivel base in the wrong place.

Great info guys, thanks veru much will have to take another look at it this weekend and see if I can work it out. Mine looks quite a lot like yours bigherb.

I too have the same battery and yes it is a very tight fit. However it will fit if you remove the seat by sliding it forward and then loosen the 4 bolts holding the swivel base. Doing this gave me just enough room to wiggle the battery in. My split charge relay just squeezes into the gap on the side.

There is support for the lid, again see the third pic, that silver clip type thing corresponds with a pressed protrusion inside the box along with another one on the opposite side that supports it quite well, difficult to see but they are there.
