Bodyshop recommendations S. Cheshire / N. Shropshire

Post by ghost123uk »

Re Bodyshop recommendations S. Cheshire / N. Shropshire.

A bit complicated this one. I have mentioned it before but things are getting desperate now.

Long story short = our TinTop has been in a body sop near Chester for 18 months now, for a glass out resto that was supposed to take 2 months max.

The guy's work is good but he is just so slow, only doing it when he has no insurance jobs to do on Focus's etc

He has done most of the cutting out bad bits and replacing with good panels and or metal and the van is currently bare metal. It just needs finishing and I am desperate to get it back now and I don't know what else to do.

I know this is going to cost me dearly, I will have to pay him for what he has done, then pay someone to finish it, paint it and put all the glass and trim back (with new seals etc) Obviously any prospective person will need to look at the job first too.

I know that I would likely have to accept a strictly "no guarantee" type of agreement as one person cannot warranty another persons work.

Does anyone know of someone trustworthy that might take this on ?

I wouldnt pay your bloke....i would spend his payment on a solicitor and take him to the cleaners.

He has completely breached whatever written or unwritten contract you made.....no one in their right mind can justify 16 months and expect payment.

My solicitors letter would say that he has 1 month to complete fully or else.

Very bad service.

I had considered this Keith, but if I go down that road he is likely to just throw it together just to get it out. I don't want that sort of a job on it.

I will cross the "what about the work I have done" as and when. My main concern now is to get it out of there and back on the road.

T25, TinTop ex Caravelle, ( and might well be made back into one ;) ) body, paint, glass, all doors are off and have been sorted but not painted. No interior work required, interior is currently fully stripped, except for the headlining.

You have a p.m. ;)

If I go and take a load of pics, the guy will likely guess why and that is when the animosity will start, but I have to do something !

John can you remeber me telling you on here not to pay him anymore money which seems yonks ago,i got shot down by many on the post, ive dealt with many many pro bodyshops and havnt got a good word to say about any of them (apart from one).If i could find a good reliable painter id employ him or her full time or gaurantee him/her loads of work.Im having similar problems with a van in a paint shop now.Think the paint fumes must get to them over the years.adam. ps good luck with the paint shop in question!

I would agree with Keiths post above. At the worst if he was to throw it together at least you'd get your van back and from what you have said he has taken the pee for too long and can't be arsed to do a competent job for you. It sounds like he couldn't give toss about your situation.David

I could have a look at fitting it in, it just depends on what's left and if I can fit it around existing jobs.

I am going to see it again at the end of this week. I will take lots of pics to help determine what actual metalwork is left to do (I think 90% of that aspect of it is done) and take it from there.

Sad that there is almost no such thing as a bodyshop that gets a full thumbs up recommendation. I don't just mean for quality of work, but also for reliability and honesty.

It seems mm Micky has the monopoly on that aspect of this subject 8)
