Screen seals

Post by Plasticman »

Well im not known for slating firms etc but i want to voice a recent
when doing the sunnyvagon i ordered vw front and rear screen seals from 'Status' ive been getting them from there for a while with no problems at all ,but
i didnt open the package as nothing was needed till refit time (my mistake which I wont repeat) anyhow we get the rear seal out , vw nice supple dropped straight on, now the front .
hmm bags a bit heavy ,no logo ,not right this is a pattern, anyhow lets try it, well seeing is beleiving , no way ,total rubbish, so i call Barclay and he says sorry i must have mistaken the order, so i say urgent as van ready to leave so he says he will send asap,
ff monday ,nothing so i give till tues and call , said it was collected so should be with me, i ask for tracking number ,this cant be found so i wait and keep calling and helen calls and eventually he says it must have got lost ! so i will send another out, ok track number please,, nope not till its collected, saga goes on and an email arrives with track details on saturday,
say collection booked but not picked up as not ready so on monday morning at 08.05 i call the carrier at their nuneaton office and speak to ... lets call her jane.and she confirms its booked but not been asked to collect yet and nothing else is due,
i then call status again and he says its gone, oh says i can i have track number , aint got it ,ok so i will call you in 10 minutes to get it, he says i havent got the couriers number so i give him 'jane's number and also tell him the name of the two drivers that usually collect from him and i get hung up on ! i then call and all i get is an answer message dated 12th feb saying there is a problem with bt works sory etc etc , so i call the mb and yep it diverts to the bt message.
next day , another pattern seal arrives  What the blithering heck !
lies and lies, just say out of stock sorry, and then no further issues but dont try to palm off pattern goods when they are not requested.also not once despite myself and helen being told he would be in touch did he ever call as promnised
now i advised adam (forgot your username) to get one from there to replace a pattern one after a screen repair and his fitter cracked a window trying to fit the piece of crap, ok its in now but its not right.
so whilst ive been happy with every other aspect of service from them ,why shoot yourself in the foot like this,
i have copies of all correspondance and shipping slips and all the above can be corroborated .
rant and over

Only dealings I've had with Status was buying front and rear windscreen seals for a Karmann Ghia a few years ago.
Everyone said their seals were the best but to be honest, I ended up dumping theirs as the fit wasn't great and I fitted better fitting ones from House of Ghia in America.

Yup, I can confirm. Was h see the impression I was ordering an original VW seal. When it arrived I handed it over to the windscreen fitter assuming that an original had been sent. Got a call later that day from the fitter saying that the fit was so tight it had taken 5 hours and the windscreen cracked at the last bit! Next day he tried again with another window and went in after an hour. Sure enough when I collect it - a pattern seal and not the original as per details on their website. So basically the fitter looses out on 5 hours work and I have to buy a new windscreen. All because Status sent a lesser quality part

I won't use them unless I am really desperate for parts. I ordered an inner front valance for a bay, it took 5 weeks to arrive
Countless phone calls, being told its been sent, must have got lost etc etc. Not a happy bunny.

I order 2 a posts off ebay without noticing they were from Status  , however they turned up in 2 days. Prices were a hell of a lot cheaper than their web shop as well. But I definatly wont use unless desperate.

I only use Chris at VW Emporium for seals. He sends proper ones. I agree, pattern windscreen seals suck, not only in the hassle fitting but how they look afterwards, like the van has thyroid problems.

http://www.volkswagenemporium.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - They can even supply the Caravelle ones with chrome insert. Took me just 10 mins to refit my screen, on my own. Pattern ones, hours, if at all, and certainly not on your own. You can save as much as £20 with a cheaper seal but the saving soon pales into insignificance.

Oh, this is not good news. I bought a new seal from them 2 months ago and haven't fitted it yet. Haven't even opened the bag. How do I know if it's a pattern one or genuine?
I was waiting for some good weather to put it in. :?

Aye ,well its the first time ive had a problem here, as you know i do my own side seals and use other sources for stuff but its not so much the unavailability of the item its more the passing off (in my case twice) of a pattern part for genuine that is unforgivable , a simple .sorry mate out of stock, would have saved all the hassle ,

The guy who fitted my screen was quite impressed with the seal I got from Custom & Commercial, less impressed with the chrome trim from Heritage though which was too small even though the guy I spoke to on the phone swore blind it was the right one
