Hi there!
We are newbies and very excited about having our first campervan. Can't wait to go away in our lovely T3 van....First trip Criccieth in a week then France (and hopefully Italy) end April. Having spent a lot of money on the van and realising it's going to be increasingly likely to be a threatened species I'd like to make it as secure as possible. Our model is the Diesel 1.6 Golf Turbo engine version and the dealer we bought it from suggested putting in a hidden switch to disconnect/connect the fuel supply. I've tried to find a reference in the wiki but failed. Any suggestions and pointers very welcome. My Other Half is quite capable of doing this with the right instructions... (just not sure I want to trust him with the long term rust reduction programme....)
We are in W Yorks so hope to meet some of you sometime soon, are there some meetings over Easter?

Hi
We generally won't discuss security in a open forum, but look in members only, you find a few topics, but we are just a bit "cagey" about publishing to much info..... Ohhhhhhhh and welcome....

Re: security feature - solenoid switch
Diesels are a little different as they don't have an ignition circuit (coil/distributor etc) to immobilize. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to interupt the fuel cut-off valve/solenoid (which has a live feed with ignition)
Switch this feed to prevent starting.
Whilst I wouldn't wish to reveal any individual's security measures, personally, I cannot see any harm in discussing security measures in general.
Most on here would recommend several deterents combined.....a good visual deterent like a steering lock perhaps and a couple more subtle ones like the hidden immobilizer...
Trackers seem to be the ultimate in security but of course won't stop the van getting nicked in the first place.

Your images need hosting...I use Photobucket, it's free and all you do after uploading to their site is copy the image file (img) to your post and the pictures will display on the page.
Wiki has more on this if you're unsure.
