Got mine at GSF. You can definately still get them even if many places still try to flog you the whole thing. I appreciate some will maintain that the whole thing needs replacing but in my experience this is generally not the case and the pressure place still perfectly servicable. You have to bear in mind that I'm old school, not a 'fitter' but a mechanic. The whole concept of selling 'units' makes my blood boil at times.

dbz, time you joined properly

reason i said upside down is cos a van i boiught had all the bushes everything replaced, and same thing stop in 5th and usually it would be stuck there till you set of in 5th !!!! got a bit of fwd movement then it would snick out, 4sp 4th and 5sp 5th are the same travel at the box end and the brcket will happyly fit tother way up , from memory you have to knock the retaining pin out of the ally bit to get the bracket off,
i recall its only about 1/2" lower when wrong but in full fwd at the g.box then the ball is near out of the cup part , not as bad in 2nd/4th or 1st/3rd for yours when its to the rear of its travel

and Em, Clutch centre plate. VeeWee is just GSF's Aircooled arm, but GSF will have it too.

http://www.veewee.co.uk/index.php/parts ... /192vg0040

As I say, replace clutch, next time centre plate (and bearing if its actually worn or noisy) then next time clutch etc. Lot cheaper. In the old days garages did NOT replace the clutch each time. Much of this is about maximising profit in the supply chain with the gradual shift to selling whole units rather than individual parts. Dumb fitters love all that. Swap parts until you find out whats actually wrong - duh. If nothing else I'm known on here for being resourceful and I'll often make a small part rather than get ripped off having to buy a whole item when only a small part wants replacing.

I have to say, there are not many of us now. The whole garage trade is all 'units' right up to Scanias and the like, and largely because they don't want the risk of a customer coming back a week later. In the real world, a good mechanic can judge whats actually worn. Few seem to know how to pinpoint a fault these days - they just go on crash courses in box handling . Hope that helps.

^^^^ the most sense Ive heard in ages
also whilst I and many others can and have changed starter bendix's,doen top trunnions fitted new bushes and reamed out for kingpins the list goes on ,but where can modern guys get training, certainly not main dealers as they all fit, so they are fitters not mechanics , maybe splitting hairs to some ,but in reality its not, christ in days gone back we'd reline (rivit ) brtake shoes and refurb non diaphram clutch pressure plates ,
but with profits to be maintained and lack of required skills its easier to plug and play and refit complete units .
