Hi Guys,
automatic choke is knackered on the van so have to let the engine warm up befor any trip. is the automatic choke repairable of will I need a new carb? I'm handy at most things but don't really want to tackle this job if I'm honest.
cheers Rob

To be honest Kev I'm not 100% but I think it could be the heat spring that expands and shrinks (wound up looks like a snail EXCUSE the terminology could be broke?.
here's what happens if I start van and apply little or any revs the van starts revving sky high and the only way to get the revs to come down is by giving the accelerator pedal a quick kick.
now if I start van and leave it so it warms up, just over the white I get no problems.
I only get the high revving from cold if I touch the accelerator.
is my Snail the problem you think

What you describe is quite normal and is working correctly.
The fast idle is set by depressing the accelerator fully before starting.
Ignition on...and when cranking the engine LEAVE your foot OFF the pedal, once started it will come down a step when you next touch the pedal
As the engine warms the stepped fast idle cam rotates eventually letting the engine tick over normally after about 6-7 mins (ambient temp dependant)
