Starting the motor (almost cuts out when on grass)
Good Evening fellow members.
I am new to the forum, new to the club... and I recently acquired a T25 1900CC Petrol (Water and Air Cooled) T25.
I experienced a little difficulty this morning when spending around 2 hours parked on damp grass.
It took a few attempts to start the motor up, however she soon got going after the third attempt (I was mindful not
to flood the Engine).
I have since retried starting the motor (6 hrs later) and she started first time no problems.
(The motor is parked on a drive). Can any of you fellow members please advise me what I have done wrong,
what I should do in the future and apart from Jump Leads... What I should be carrying?
Many thanks
CAMOS75

Before the usual flood of un-helpful & mildly sarcastic responses start it would be helpful to know what engine you have got, Injection or carb(s). As a starting point you have either a water-cooled or an air-cooled van -
- not bothT25 1900CC Petrol (Water and Air Cooled) T25.
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.

Re: Starting the motor (almost cuts out when on grass)
Dampness from grass normally only causes poor starting if the ignition components are in poor condition .
It's not unusual to hear vans needing a little more cranking the morning after a heavey dew on a campsite .

Hi
Just in case you are not aware, if you have a 1.9 water cooled, pierburg carb fuelled then you will have to go through the normal starting procedure, you need to preload the carb by firstly pushing the accelerator down to the floor and then releasing it, then turn the ignition to start without touching the pedal again and if all is well then it should start ok. If not then at least we can rule this out.

If the dampness of the grass (dew) is causing one or more cylinders to drop, then as Steve has said leads/distributor cap/plugs, may need attention.
A little trick in the first instance, is to remove (cut) the metal shrouds from the spark plug caps (perfectly safe) and see if this cures the problem.

Thankyou for all of your posts above. It is an injection engine. I will try the pedal to the floor then starting procedure.
Thanks again to all of you, great quick responses.
I am new to Forums so hey, this is fantastic.

May I suggest you add your location to your profile and the details of your van into your signature , by going into the user control panelcamos75 wrote:Thankyou for all of your posts above. It is an injection engine. I will try the pedal to the floor then starting procedure.

That will ensure everyone who reads any of your posts will know what van you have, especially as the DH engine (1.9 injection ) is quite rare these days .

Re: Starting the motor (almost cuts out when on grass)
As Kev says......pressing down once on the accelerator pedal is only necessary to set mechanical auto choke systems on carburettor equipt engines. Vehicles with injection do not need this pre-start method as 'cold start enrichment' is automatic.
