is the swtick fairly solid,
what wa s it changing like prior to this
any noises,issues.
could be as simple as the linkage undone and gone out of adjustment , could be the fork stuck maybe astraddle in the front selector box.

As said above, could be the linkage jumped , or the ball wedged in the cup if you are lucky

Get under and try and move the box end of the linkage .....

ah , thast may be promising then, that would sound like something has come undone as generally when a box is jammed internally the stick is reasonably rigid, just the movement that appertains to the inherant slop thats there.
So ,
engine off.chock the wheels
jack up the o/s rear and use a stand etc.
nip under and disconnect the bracket (2 nuts/bolts 13mm spanner)that the end of the long shift rod fixess to the box,
this will allow you to drop it down and disengage the ball/cup, if you have a camera handy, take a picky.
then pull the arm with the ball on towards the rear of the van and this will disengage 3rd gear,
i have also suggested you raise the wheel so that you can rotate it as this help when disengaging,
now assumiong its come out, then try getting the rest of the gears from under here , and remember you move the arm with a the ball in exactly the opposite way to the stick at the front
when done come back for more
oh and have a looksee at the join in the loing rod, it will be splined and up by the fuel tank as this often works loose

hmm, what exactly was wrong with the linkage then?
you need to state which engine you have and van year etc , also your rough location

hah, do check the last bracket at the gearbox end as this can be put on the wrong side of the flange and more commonly it is mounted upside down , often still works but the throw is wrong and the gearstick has to travel a long way between 2-3 4-5 and vice versa, and of course the ball jams half way out the cup

Lots there on 5-speed linkage (both diesel and petrol) - as for clutch for the last 30 years I have always fitted complete clutch first time, friction plate the second, complete clutch third, then just friction plate and so on. I just keep a tally. Saves money and never had a pressure plate fail on me - on bugs, bays or T25s providing I replace every other refit. I can actually do a friction plate change on a T25 in under 45 mins now. Did it in 30 once!

Covkid - where do you get just the friction plate from? I tried this last time I replaced a clutch....couldn't find anything but the complete set?
