Hello - and I just bought my first Syncro!

Post by Tinium »

First a hello to everyone - been registered for a while as I was looking for a Syncro, and lo, following the helpful advice on here, the wiki, and Jon from Syncrospares/CoastVW, I bought a van this week :)

Syncro.jpg

Mechanics & bodywork look sound other than the sills below the sliding door. Some new 15" wheels & tyres, and replace the perished window rubber, should see the van good for the first year (famous last words I know).

Owned various 101's, 110's and VW's, hopefully this is the best combination of all. :D

Yeah, was looking for a high-top, but saw this and couldn't resist - may go high though, will wait and see! (Is that sacrilegious?)

Thanks for the welcome - I'm in Devon (just updated my profile), van's currently in Yorkshire - damn you slow bank transfers... :)

I would personally say, in this case, yes it would be sacrilegious. They are getting rarer and therefore more of an investment than a hacked about one. This just my opinion and I am not a Syncro aficionado :? . Though, as so often, others opinions may (and likely will) differ

I can see exactly where you're coming from - fortunately just 1 small one on the way at the moment, so with a full width bed we should be ok for a while yet, and after that - into the awning you go! :)

You can get a hammock that goes widthways across the front seats :ok

Just wondering why no-one else has chimed in, just realised, being the Syncro section, they are all at work trying to earn enough to pay for the upkeep

After nine months, I still can't make up my mind what to do with mine. Definitely not a high top, but maybe a pop top conversion, at some stage. For a while I hankered after a turret top (just a square roof that opens straight up), but haven't had any luck finding a reasonably priced one.
Going to try to do a bit more camping this summer, and then make a decision regarding the roof.
So for now at least, my Syncro remains a tin-top.

So, wheels and tyres, brakes, cvs, boots, window seals, mirrors, electrics and a whole host of other work down - just sills and weeping head gaskets to go!

Did manage to go camping this weekend near Branscombe though - the good lady was a lot happier with that than the bills so far :D

Weepy head seals? Tried K-seal yet? Seems to have worked a treat on mine. They don't like being stood around, definitely happier with regular use.

Another wbx syncro, well done :ok

Great looking van. I like your wheels. What are they and what tyres have they got on? Did you originally have 14" wheels?

You're not the first to mention K-seal - the engine's a refurb that's just outside warranty, the company that did the original work have made me a good offer to take the van back in and sort it - so I'll probably go down that route and get it fixed once and for all. This'll be my only runner (though I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work), so will def get used frequently!

Yep, loving the sound of it, plenty of poke, resisting the urge to calculate mpg's :)

Thanks :)

Yep, swapped them for 15" mefros, powder coated gloss black and then fitted BFG AT KO's. Old 14's had different tyres with different wear on every corner  Fairly new VC seems to have survived relatively unscathed fortunately!

Old discs were completly shot too - so now sporting some lovely black diamond discs. So it stops now. Which is nice. :D
