Think 400 psi + is what you're looking at pressure wise, cyls are numbered 1 > 4 from the pulley (water pump) end.
It has probably cracked between the valves or across the pre-chamber
Thanks Clive, yes I've now relised they are just standard 12 point sockets, thought they were special in some way?
I've started a new post on this now, will be taking the head off this w/e.
Any thoughts on a JX head fitting an AAZ?

Well looks like the JX won't fit, thanks for the input. However the AAZ head is definetly useless. The landing face for the injector has gone and there is a hole in the block between that and the glowplug hole, I reckon that is where the sudden presurising of the coolant came from as it was sprouting out of the expansion tank at quite a rate.
Also the glow plug tip has disapeared which is suprising as it had only been in there for about 1000 miles or so.There is a chip out of the valve which is where all the compresion was going clearly.
Could it be that local overheating has occured due to poor combustion which has burnt a hole in the head and totaled the glow plug?? I cant get the IDI chamber out no matter how hard I bash it. The rest came out OK. The piston shows sign of poor combustion.
Was going to buy a new head as the oil pressure was good but have possibly managed to get another AAZ with lower miles and think I'll fit that instead, hopefully this time all will be OK.

HarryMann wrote:Maybe, did you mark the injectors by cyl. No. As they came out? Can test them & compare
Was it not idling or running rough when they delivered it back... ?
Yes and the injector that came out was definetly dirtier than the rest but then so was the top of the piston, It was idling OK but was smoking a bit on start up in the mornng which cleared fairly quickly, in hindsite that could have been the dodgy injector dripping and made worse by a chip in the exhaust valve. And would cause a chip like I wonder?
Obvious question here is how often should these injectors be taken out for testing or replacing?. In Marine they are overhauled and tested regulalarly but never heard any talk of it in automotive strangely.
I've now bought another engine with 94K is it worth replacing the injectors in that I wonder?
Think I've just been pretty unlucky here.
Look forward to comments.

With any new-build or project, its worth making sure they are OK, many places can pop test them, but not so many do a full spray check etc. AAZ Injectors are dual pressure I seem to remember, to give a smoother pressure rise. I think I paid about £25/ea for new ones when I rebuilt mine.
Not convinced yet that just the injector was the culprit, unless you have had it checked, tested and re-calibrated, suspect donor engine was going bad anyway?

Yes my thoughts now also and more the reason not to splash out a new cylinder head, New Donor engine arrived today....fingers crossed.

Old AAZ out and "new" one getting ready to go in.
I found the garage missed out one of the Starter Motor Bolts. I told them and they said "it was in when it left here" ---- yeh so it fell off after a 500 miles? Whatever, I don't care, life is too short!
Important thing is I don't have one, Baxter is out of stock and apparantly they are a non standard thread, they are hoping to get some more but I could do with one in the next couple of weeks, can anyone help?
Many Thanks
