If I don't power the fridge with gas and just use 12v/mains, does it still need ventilation to the outside? Its an old Electrolux RM123. There are 2 massive vent holes (can't find replacement cover to replace one that completely perished) and I'd rather they were sealed up.
Would love a new Waeco one, but funds don't allow so need to work with what I have.
Way too paranoid to run it on gas overnight with my family inside anyhow.
Thanks

There's still heat - that's how a fridge works - but no air or exhaust needed for gas combustion. So, yes, it'll need ventilation - but not so much as on gas.

A properly installed gas fridge is perfectly safe. CO detectors are there to reassure your paranoia.

Re: Fridge ventilation
As^^^^ says, in mine i have no vents and my ice box still freezes, but there is air circulation into the van so to speak, the gas is correctly flued out so all fine ,
i understand your fear of gas, bit like times gone by when folk thought they would sail until they fell off the side of the earth
get it checked by somebody qualified and use it, oh and get monoxide detector etc.
regards your vents beoing scabby, post up a picky or a link to them (not faceache) and we can tell you where to get them , usually about a fiver each

Thanks for replies chaps....

Will do.
I'm sorry to say that my scabby vents are just holes. Would you like to see them? They're 440x80mm.
So just the metal tube bit angled upwards is vented on yours? As you say, they're not exactly hermetically sealed...metalmick8y wrote:As^^^^ says, in mine i have no vents and my ice box still freezes, but there is air circulation into the van so to speak, the gas is correctly flued out so all fine ,
No, my fear is of having a stupid death as they'd say on Horrible Histories. I 'refitted' the kitchen last year and the gas pipes got a bit mashed.metalmick8y wrote: i understand your fear of gas, bit like times gone by when folk thought they would sail until they fell off the side of the earth![]()

No one's ever asked to see my scabby vents before.metalmick8y wrote:regards your vents beoing scabby, post up a picky or a link to them (not faceache) and we can tell you where to get them , usually about a fiver each

Re: Fridge ventilation
So do you mean allow air to circulate around it but not block up the back?AdrianC wrote:There's still heat - that's how a fridge works - but no air or exhaust needed for gas combustion. So, yes, it'll need ventilation - but not so much as on gas.

Re: Fridge ventilation
yes show the vents please
and give the exact size of the hoyle..
yes the gas exhaust needs to point upwards and be the correct configuration, the lazy T on top of the heatexchanger on the rear of the fridge is also open at the lower part of the T hennce lazy lol this is needed to enable the flue to function,
as for hermetically sealed , nope, some are reasonably fitted to some inner panals and such as on the van im doing now, and it has large vent to aid cooling of the workings at the rear, but as said on mine i have none for cooling and rely on the heat escaping into the van which it does , have to say i havent noticed it getting much warmer inside due to this ,see here for the flue https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... &start=390" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can see how the fridge is hard up against the panals on either side and an ally plate deflects heat up to the vent, it will be more efficient than mine that has none, but im happy with mine as it is.
just get yours checked out to be sure its working correctly and with the picky and size you can get some vents heres a link there are many more out there

Re: Fridge ventilation
Leisure shops closest is the LS200 Aperture size: 450 x 155mm which is pretty darn close. If I don't need the extra ventilation, I'd rather weld in a plate and just leave the smaller flue outlet on there.
Thanks for the pic link - wondering where you sourced the stainless steel flue from - is it flexible? I'm planning on making the units removeable and a bit of flexibility never went amiss.
Looking up how other folks moved the hook-up point to the boot area as well.
