How noisey are propex/eber heaters?

I find our 2 staffys in the bed are the best form of night heater, and at around 50p a day running costs they're cheap too.

It can be a problem with all the beer and burgers but the dogs don't seem mind that much.

No. it's fitted to the angled bulkhead so I have more room under the bed to store stuff

We have an Eber not sure exact model think its D3L about 2003/04 model 2.1Kw I think which we fitted last year.

It is noisy on start up and when raising the temps in the van but settles down to a very quiet hum, this will depend a bit upon on how warm you want to be and the outside temperatures. We have a silencer fitted which made a bit of a difference and it is much quieter inside the van than out.
Very fuel effecient and even with our worn out leisure battery it still ran for 12 hours, I know because I accidently left it running overnight 2 days ago when testing it before our holiday in a weeks times, after 12hrs it had only just switched off as the van and heater outlet were still nice and warm.

I do think it could be a bit antisocial if you had a tent very close in very cold weather.

Propex seem quieter but are significantly more expensive to run if using Camping Gaz 907s

D3L is 3.2 Kw.
The D3L P compact is a special quieter model.

I have an eberspacher on a T4 westie and although, as said by others it is quiet in the van, i have taken a walk to the loo in the night on a v quiet campsite and thought it was a bit noisy for my neighbours I had a propex in a Bay but only ever fired it up to test it worked...that seemed quieter but maybe because it was in the van under the bed?

I just bought a non moving T25 and have found a Riviera floor heater in it...tho not a clue if it works or not

The Eber in ours is as quiet as anything (when the temperamental beast decides it feels like working).

Back to the subject (Propex ) - ours is under the front of the bed and makes about the same noise as a modern well designed fan heater, or perhaps even less. To be fair it has recently had a new motor fitted (£70) that is supposed to be quieter and uses a tad less current (1.6 amps) than the original design. Plus it only comes on for 10 minutes every 1/2 hour or so (Thermostatically controlled).

As said above, you cannot tap into the LPG tank, but you can save LOTS of money by buying a (legal) re-fillable tank that takes forecourt LPG, the same as you put in the main tank. Bonus is that does not freeze in cold weather. More on those = HERE

Sounds like you probably want to address insulation first, though. With two people in a smallish space, the heating should really only be needed to take the edge off the cold. Overnight, when lower temperatures inside the van aren't such a great issue anyway, there shouldn't be any need to have the heating on. On the few occasions we've felt the need to use our Eber (very quiet, btw - a slight ticky-ticky-ticky internally from the pump, and a low slightly pulsing whommf from the exhaust), it doesn't do much once it's up to temperature - the thermostat cuts it in briefly every now and then.

My eber is quiet inside the van....and I don't think you would hear much on a quiet camp outside the van.....unless your tent was next to the exhausts.....and you were benefitting from the heat and fumes....
