83 2.0ac camper brake disc splash plates

Hi there,
I am in the process of renewing the front steering and suspension and needed to replace the splash plates because there rotten , so I brought some from brickwerks painted them up and put the passenger side on no problem and then went to put the drivers side one and it won't fit,I think the mating face is a different shape.

When I was repainting the knuckles I noticed that one was original made in Germany and the other was made in France .

Could the knuckle be from a t2 ?

i had the same problem as i used a reconditioned 2nd hand front spindle to save time when dismantling , when i re fitted they both used different sized bearings the backing plates were fine though

I've had a look around and it seems the one at the bottom is a pre 84 knuckle (the correct one) so the other one must be a later power steering one .

What I might do is take the splash plates off for now so I can get the van welded and then source the correct replacement.

you have an early van ( pre 83?)

bottom german one is correct for your van

top france version is the inbetween version 83/86 ish ( early caliper , late outer bearing, casting for trackrod connection allows for power stering positioning)

the later one looks like the bottom but has different calpier bolt holes (plain larger holes) but otherwise the same

double check the inner and outer bearings fit as i am sure the inner bearings are the saem , but the outer is different

i should have the oposite version you need , which ever you choose.
you can pair them up however you wish , even the later types with later calipers.

the FRANCE / GERMAN thing is a weird one with vw as i have seen a pair of german ones but they are very rare , 9/10 times its german / france

Thank you for the offers guys ,I have left the plates off for now and got the wheels back on so I can get it to my mate for welding.
I shall looking into it when I get it back.
