STAINLESS TAILPIPE TO NON STAINLESS EXHAUST?

Post by chriscburgess »

I need to replace my tailpipe ( yet again!)

Is it possible to and is it worth fitting a stainless tailpipe to a standard non stainless exhaust?

The whole system does not need replacing yet but when it does i shall go stainless.

Simple answer = Yes

I have a Brickwerks one on our "other" van (Colin the TinTop )

The BW stainless system's designed to be compatible component-by-component, so you should be able to - but it'll depend on your old silencer... Assuming it's got the three-bolt flange, it should do.

We're using the BW stainless from the elbow back with original mild front pipes.

Ah, except, unless I am out of date, BW only do the later (post 85) system in SS and Chris's van is 84 so should be the earlier system.

I recently fitted a VW-SpeedShop SS system (£500 retail and fits early and late vans) and I like it a lot

I've had a 'bluebird custom' one on my early exhaust van for 4 years, does go off colour though and needs polishing with autosol, if your into that sort of bling thing

Yes defiantly. Use brass nuts to make it easy to get off and you can put it on another exhaust easily.

Mines and aircooler slightly different

Just noticed yours is an 84 model if you sill have the original type exhaust system like mine then you need the same tailpipe the Brickworks one is for the later systems and hangs too low.
You need one of these.
