Race harnesses in the rear of a Westy with 3/4 bed

Post by theboycalledleaf »

My sister in law has a late bay that was recently renovated by a speialist in West Sussex.
As a specialist, I'm making the vivid assumption he knows what he's doing.
As a solution to seating her two children in the back, he's fitted to race harnesses to hold their car seats in place. They're the 4 fixings on the van body, and a clip on the chest type. I'm toying with the idea of these for my Westy, and wondered about the technicalities, safety issues and the legal aspect of fitting them. Any ideas?
She's been through a few MOT's and no issues to date.
Sorry, no photos, but I'll endeavor to get some.
Thought it might whet your appetites!
Could be the simple solution those with older kids have been looking for?

Why not just fit 2x 3 point belts?

Not great pics, I took them as I rushed out the door.

The one on the right unclips at two points so it can be fully retracted and the bed can be laid out.

Ninja, any chance of some more info on your solution? Is 1 belt as normal with the lower reel? What did you fix the top one to? And crucially how secure are they, mot man happy?

Sorry, I hadn't seen seen your question until now. I'll take a pic tomorrow of the mounting point.

The hidden cassette is the one I bought from brickwerks. The one fitted by seat belt services was £160.

Not cheap at £148 per belt but that's supplied and fitted and guaranteed for 2 years. Took the guy 2 hours. He had to modify my seat a bit but made a really clean and tidy job of it!!
