Eberspacher D2L woes

Post by frenchwesty »

Hi again already posted for an issue with the diesel D2L eberspacher i have on my 85 westy. The original problem was when i put it on heating it did nothing apart from flash both red a green LEDs on the control. However on cooling fan alone worked fine. Having just passed its french control technique/MOT i have stripped it totally of the camper. Anyhow on opening the everspacher there was a wire a blue one from the heat sensor at the end of the heater internals which was totally snapped and the brown one from it also was nearly broken. I have now repaired these and hoping this is the solution to it not working. Would having this snapped wire from the heat sensor make it look like it was overheating and hence go straight into shut down which it seemed like the fault was?? Am not an electrical genius so are the sensors normally open? As have now checked the resistance to the end of the wiring harness and it seems fine. However if they should be normally closed then they are both faulty as showing no resistance??

Any input would be great! Just want to ask advice before i put it all back together again and find does not work again. Will check the pump to tomorrow also and glow plug by putting across the battery. Any other checks i could carry out whilst it is off the van!!

Been a busy day as also replaced the fan under the dash as well as getting it through its MOT and stripping the eber!

They are usually a normally closed type. They can and do fail over time.

Got the eber back together and on the van again and it now seems to be running just fine, seemed to be just these broken cables thank god. Only issue now it is smoking a lot out of the exhaust, not sure if this is bad glow plug as was a bit sooty. Will try running it for a while as seems to run fine and chucks out heat in the van just smokey exhaust. If anyone else has had smoke issues and have any advice would be grateful.

As just had it out, know it is clean inside and cleaned ducting also. The exhaust when re attaching seemed to have quite a bit of "pooh" inside so may take off and clean out also and see how it goes.

Thanks

Give it a blast on full heat for a couple hours to clear any built up residues from several stop starts as it will have diesel unburnt inside. If it hasn't been serviced for a while put it on your list for a full strip down and decoke inside as I shouldn't think that it has been done for a good few years.

Cheers oldie thanks for the advice, will give it a blast on full for a while. Will wait until a bit quieter as in France i have to do it on the village car park no private drive or garden. Hence if i go for it for hours bet the fire brigade will turn up lol. Will do when quiet or at night and hopefully will do the trick. Its not been used for years we have had the van two years and did not work when we bought it. Got round to getting it going now as off to the ski resorts for the odd day so a bit of heat will come in handy coming off the slopes for a hot chocolate and dinner. Plus keeps me in the good books with the other half, well until I wreck the table painting or camper parts on it ooops I am a man is what we do lol

Thanks Andy
