ok so the engine is all fixed and running well, we have done a 150 or so trouble free miles, the only last niggle is the water temp gauge. when i was bleeding the cooling system as per simon's post on the brickyard. i dont have a rev counter but the revs were held constant by clipping a pair of mole grips on the the pump lever arm and were about 2=2500 rpm. the temp gauge rose up over a period of about 10min as soon as the needle passed the led (so you can see the led) the cooling fan kicked in and you can see the the temp drop slightly as you would expect. so all good
now when driving the water temp gauge hovers on the mid to outer edge of the white section of the gauge (the cold section). when working the engine hard it rises slightly but as soon as the load stops and you are back to normal driving it the drops back ing the the mid cold section.
so far i have replaced
the front to back coolant pipes
fitted an new rad
fitted a 19 row oil cooler with thermostatic take of plate
fitted an 87c thermostat, (pig of a job when you have p/s)
has any one got any ideas?
thanks neil

Re: jx engine temps
poor temp sender connection ?
Symptoms are those of a tstat failed open but that's unlikely with new one I guess so probably bad electrical - have you dislodged the wire or has the connection got wet/fouled ?

should have also said that once warm up after a drive, i opened the engine hatch and hold the revs up (with the mole grips) the temp rises in a couple of min to 12 o clock (on the led) and then past untill the fan comes on.

Re: jx engine temps
Talk us through running a diagnostic check on the temp sender then Neil - I got the same issue on the Doka , runs well below the led unless under load ( Nicks caravan
)

Re: jx engine temps
Just swap the temp wire to another sender and see if the gauge reads any different.
