hi all
i have a little problem that i need help with on my 1990 panel van ,my rear castle nut keeps coming loose! ,ive replaced the stub axle and nut only 500 miles ago for the mot but its started again and now have a wobble on the wheel.the barrings good but i do have a little wear on the front tyre outer edge,,i have an idea that the front wheel is not offset right and this is causing a wobble which is forcing the nut on the opposite side to wear..would this be right?
also if there is a good vw garage(enthusiast) in the Cardiff area who can help me look after my van that would be great as im loosing the will to live paying out to garages who say they no what there doing
cheers

How can it come loose with a split pin through it?

Mine does that on the Passenger side occasionally you have to tighten them "F T" with a massive scaffold pole, can't remember the exact torque setting - think it's in the wiki
But think Trains rather than cars

350nm which is the equivalent to 70kg on a 500mm breaker bar. They always seem to take a load more to undo.
Are the threads damaged?

Re: rear stub axle ,wheel falling off!!!!
thanks for the reply folks
the pin is still there but the thread has worn down ,the new stub axle had a good thread when fitted but somehow it has worn away again so now the nut cant get enough bite on the thread and wobbles loose.
i did use a pole the first time but the garage did it this time maybe should have checked it!

That's upsetting - I'd be taking it back there and asking to see the job sheet, assuming they did one.

well if the splines on the hub are iffy then this could cause it as no matter how tight you do the nut,the wheel will look to 'wobble' ? and of course wear will soon occur then we are back to the effect of a loose nut. stub alone will not cure it,IMHO
