AAZ..cheaper oil ok?
My 1.9TD has been in my van for 5 years and done approx 150k miles (total!) I change the oil yearly ( about 6k miles) usually with something half decent, such as castrol magnatec. Any views on if its worth paying the extra for the brand or just use a cheaper semi synthetic as it wont make any difference

Re: AAZ..cheaper oil ok?
I once used cheap asda oil in a JX i owned.. Never again, on a 500 mile run the oil degraded to a point where pressure fell to such a low level that I had to keep the revs over 2K just to hold enough pressure to stop the buzzer of doom going off!
eurocarparts - use OIL25 code and get 4l of castrol for £19.99

Re: AAZ..cheaper oil ok?
my friendly MOT tester (who used to work in the Saudi oil fields) reckoned that the cheap "supermarket" oils are reclaimed - i.e, it's already done at least 10K in someone elses car

I was marine Engineer and once worked for Mobil Oil in their lubs business, our premium and best product was synthetic and yes it really does what it says it does, Synthetic is best and semi- synthetic is an economic compromise.
It is often said "oil is the life blood of the engine" and yes it really is!
Never compromise on oil quality these engines are 20+ years old and need all the help they can get
