Which hose do I need to order? (1.6d)

Post by discipleofsketch »

Hi All,

(Please excuse my terminology, i'm a web developer, not a mechanic!)

I want to replace the hose in the middle in this pic on my 1.6d engine, as you might be able to see it has a split in it.

One end is attached to the water pump, the other end leads off under the van towards the front (though is attached via an adaptor after about 20cm inside the engine bay), and there is a spur of narrower hose (not shown) that connects to near the bottom of the header tank (i.e the tank with the pressure cap, not the top-up tank behind the number plate).

Can anyone help me work out what I need to order?

When I last bought one from Mr. VW it was £90+ so the next one I did I got a bend to suit the angle of exit from the water pump and joined it to the rest of the hose - £5! Only do it if the rest of the hose is good. Be aware that when I bought that one from VW it was the wrong size to fit on the header tank so check the internal diameter.
If you go to vw commercial dealer they will let you look at it on the screen usually so that you can check it's the right one.

Should be the first one Billy739 linked to - good price compared to vw also!

Cheers - good tip on the separate bend! The rest of the hose seems ok on first look, so may go that route. Good tip on the diameter, it would be a bit gutting to spend 90 on a VW one to find it doesn't fit.
