Still pants oil pressure

Post by KINGPRAWN »

First long drive in a while and I thought I'd sorted it but b no!!
On start up the pressure gauge nearly hits 5 bar but then properly hot the pressure is ish half the revs and at idle barely off the zero. I have a new pressure release kit to fit first before going into pump land!!
Do I need to drain the oil to fit this????
Oil is Brickies 15/40 PLUS 2 tins of STP !!!
Engine is sweet, uses no oil and runs cool as!!!
It it wasn't for the gauge and that freakin buzzer all would be peachy!!!

Yes,drain the oil but keep it obviously

Swapping a pump isn't hard, not convinced it is that but ...

The oil pressure should be 2 bar at 2000 rpm sounds like from that jumble it's OK. Forget the idle pressure it's irrelevant. Save your money on the STP crap and sort the buzzer problem.

But it's how to sort it???
Like I tried to say @ 4k rpm 2bar, at 3k 1.5 bar 2k1bar and that retched buzzer still screams !!!!
2.1dj how much of an a*** is changing the pump if the pressure kit fails to sort it???

From the engine mount thread ..

Ian Hulley wrote:Support engine on a stand with a block of wood to spread the load.
Remove silencer and heat shield (tie header tank up so that doesn't need removing)
This gives access to the bolts which hold the cradle to the engine, undo those.
Undo (if they will ) the 4 nuts/bolts that hold the engine bar to the chassis. (take care to note which way the spreader plates are facing)
swap mounts
refitting is reverse of removal, renewing any nyloc nuts and any bolts which may be getting a tad cheesey.

Ian.

All the above and then exchange the pump itself

IF the silencer and the heat shield come off ok then that part's a doddle .... IF.

The oil pump will require either a threaded puller (not seen one that needs that type yet though AFTER I bought one or an improvised slide-hammer with a rawlbolt at the end.

There will of course (there ALWAYS is) be other jobs you may wish to do while the engine bar is off ... engine mounts obviously but also the oil pressure sender perhaps ? For example I put rivnuts in for the heatshield and splash guards and replaced every mild steel part I could with stainless .. but that's just me.

whs/\/\/\/\

I can lend you one for the cost of postage, that way you can be sure the op is as low as you think it is, because any poor electrical connection could give a false reading to the electric gauge and the bod circuit

but if pressure really is low when hot it is likely to be the bearing shells that are worn and no pump change will resolve that

I did but an oil pressure test gauge that agrees with my dash gauge!!
If the bearings were dodgy would it not smoke, rattle, run badly or something??? But as I said earlier its perfect, never been better!!
