Quick check - are 1.9 dg's interchangeble?

Post by T25Convert »

Hi,

Quick check:

Hoping to buy a running engine, but coming out a van with late cooling system. Got to go in my van with an early cooling system.

Both 1.9 DG's.

Am I right in thinking I can change the water pump on the 'new' engine (which I'd do any way whilst its out) and then fit it, or are there any other differences to the block?

Don't want to faff around with changing the coling system!

Cheers,

Alex

The short engine itself is identical ... i.e. no waterpump or plumbing.

oooh, I wasn't aware that there was an eanrly and late version of the dg. Please could someone expand upon the differences for me please.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Waht2d,

Ian has confirmed the block is the same.

However, there are two cooling and exhaust systems for the 1.9, with the change over year being around 1985.

Early exhaust very simple with J tubes like the older Aircooled exhausts, later exhaust has a merged header arrangement for better flow.

The early and late coolant systems used quite different plumbing, and a different water pump, hence my original post to check if there were any funamental differenecs with the block.

Cheers,

Alex

All the 1.9's AND 2.1's are interchangeable with the exception of the DF (smaller inlet ports in the heads) and the 2.1s which rely on a crapalitic perverter. For e.g. our DJ slotted straight into a late DG van ... carb. lpg system the lot.

Early engines also have different bearing setup which are no longer available.
