Tom Tom europe or similar gets you there; while mapping software, especially OS25 maps shows you what your passing, what lies just over the hill or in the next valley plus any lanes tracks to go via.

I have gone from Laptop/SatNav to iphone/ipad. Iphone runs Tom Tom and Memory Map concurrently so gives the audio turning directions while looking at the OS landranger or road map. The ipad is there for the navigators view or in case of needing a bigger view than what the iphone provides.

Sure you could do the same on most smart phones.

This was our setup in the Picos.

TomTom on the PDA and MemoryMap on the netbook. I personally find it easier to read the maps on the larger screen, but then I am just the navigator not the driver! We use the netbook mount that Tom linked to earlier on. If you use a laptop you will need a more substantial mount to take the weight.

Not sure. But if they want to do you for something they can just say you was using your phone without a hands free facility whilst driving. Even if you you wasn't on a call or even touching your phone! It's up to me to prove otherwise.

Modern technology  What would you do without it??

If the sun is on your left after after midday you are heading north :ok

(This got me out of trouble in France when my navigator was wasted when heading for the ferry) :pimp

Yes give me a cart horse any day

Wiythout the technology we would all still arrive at the same destinations; a little more stressed, a little less well informed, and perhaps having missed out on a few places or events that made a difference. I never missed it when I did'nt have it but i would not be without it now.

The fact there would be no call on your bill would probably save you from false accusations ;)

I have a hands free kit. But in the police statement it says that I don't.

My phone is in my wife's name.

Also the call data is for outgoing calls only. Tesco mobile do not have records for incoming calls.

The PO at the time said he had video evidence. I asked to see it but as he zoomed in on the cab area of my van he changed his mind about showing me! And guess what, no copy of the video was made!

I have to go to court this month.

My dads case was last month, it got chucked out by the judge and the policemans 'evidence' was called unreliable and untrustworthy. Even the policemans colleague refused to give evidence, saying he saw nothing.
